Spider Saloff At The Cliff Dwellers
Editor’s Note: Having survived one of the coldest and snowiest Januarys in years, a sold out house At The Cliff Dwellers turned up to forget winter and celebrate Valentine’s Day. Internationally known jazz singer Spider Saloff brought her exuberant personality along and presented a sophisticated and engaging command of American Song Book favorites. Tailored to the larger quotient of love naturally in the zeitgeist around Valentine’s Day, she took a lighthearted and occasionally racy tour through classics from Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, and Bessie Smith. Since she became a regular at the fondly remembered Gold Star Sardine Bar here in Chicago, Spider Saloff has had a steady presence in our musical scene for over three decades. For the evening, Spider was accompanied by an equally talented trio of musicians, with Jeremy Kahn on piano, Dan De Lorenzo on bass, and Eric Schneider on reeds. Next month you can find this exceptional group at Winters Jazz Club here. Catch them it you can; you won’t regret it.
