Need Advice? Joe’s Ready to Help
Editor’s Note: Joe has offered to hear from anyone interested in doing more with Hart or Canavan family history, or in collaborating on a research question, so as we wrapped up I asked which of his two email addresses to use. Joe explains that jhartkodiak@hotmail.com dates from his working days in Kodiak, Alaska, and is the one he gives out for internet purchases — deliberately kept free of contact lists in case it is ever hacked — while jhartkodiak@icloud.com is now the one he uses for personal communications. He checks both, but the iCloud address is preferred. With that, and Joe’s cheerful admission that he tends to get on a roll and “talk, talk, talk,” we said our goodbyes.

WJB: — I noticed from looking at your identification now in this interview, your email address appears as jhartkodiak@hotmail.com, although I think I just sent you an email to jhartkodiak@icloud.com. So which is preferable?
JH: Well, I started out when I was working in Kodiak, Alaska, I was using the jhartkodiak@hotmail, and then I just started using that generally for any, say, internet purchase that I was making. If they wanted an email address, I put in the hotmail.com because I figured that if that got hacked, and they got into my Hotmail account, that I didn’t have any contact lists, so they weren’t going to be able to scam everybody in my contact list.
WJB: Yeah.
JH: But for personal reasons, or for personal communications, or most communications, I just use the iCloud one now.
WJB: All right.
JH: But I check them both. But yeah, use the icloud.com.
WJB: All right. Will do.
JH: Yeah. All right.
