Editor’s Note: John continues his account of the Canavan family’s arrival in America, describing Austin Canavan (1821‑1913), Anthony Canavan Sr.’s brother, who emigrated from Ireland and eventually settled in Momence, Illinois.

JC: His name was technically Austin Canavan. And he settled in Momence, because he got a job there working as a hired man for a farmer. Well, the farmer died, and he married the widow of the farmer. And then he lived to be a man in his 90s, and he died around 1910, I believe.
