At the age of 26, Varnum married Frances Koontz September 14, 1911, in Vandalla, Audrain County, Missouri, when she was 20 years old. Frances was born in Vandalia on Tuesday, November 18, 1890. She reached 92 years of age and died in Kankakee, Kankakee, Illinois August 2, 1983. Varnum and Frances Koontz had seven children:

She died in Chicago, Cook, on August 21, 2001, at the age of 81. Mary Parish was born in Illinois on September 21, 1925. Catherine Parish was born in Momence, Kankakee, Illinois, on February 15, 1930. She died in Kankakee on June 14, 1949, at the age of 19. William F. Parish was born in 1932. He died on August 27, 1952, at the age of 20.
The second child of William Wallace Parish and Catherine Collette was Caroline (Carrie) Marie Parish. She was born in Illinois on May 5, 1888 and died November 4, 1955, at the age of 67.
