Joe Hart recalls the family of Anthony Canavan, Sr. and Ann Hughes sailing to America in a nine week voyage. In time, at the urging of Anthony’s brother, Austin Canavan, they left Philadelphia and took up farming in Kankakee County, Illinois. When their second oldest child, John Canavan, married Anna Doyle, they moved west to farmland near Des Moines, Iowa. There they farmed and raised a family of 11.
