Joe explains DNA testing turned up a non-paternity event on his mother’s side of the family. He says a non-paternity event occurs when a father’s surname is not passed along to his child, as is often the case with an adoption or an out of wedlock birth. He says that after spending time over the years building a robust family tree, it took some time to reconcile himself that he had an unrelated family line he needed to embrace and make room for.
