Editor’s Note: I got to know Jan Grayson when he and our mutual friend Jon Laing were pursuing their MBA degrees at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Founded in 1898, Chicago Booth is the second-oldest business school in the U.S., and is associated with 9 Nobel laureates in economics. Economics was never Jan’s first discipline, so he never won one of those. But if it was up to me, he’d have been awarded the Nobel Prize for friendship long ago.
