Will Parish Has a New Career after the Navy
In spring, 2023, Naval Academy graduate Will Parish, finished a distinguished 21-year career in the Navy as a carrier fighter pilot and diplomat. He had this to say on his retirement from his final Navy assignment as Director of the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy Mexico City:
“Today marks my last day in uniform before beginning terminal leave. It has been an honor to serve in the United States Navy for 21 years and 1 day. I am grateful for all the memories, friendships, lessons, and adventure of a lifetime flying F-14s and F/A-18s and then serving around the world and in various embassies throughout Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
Transitioning from the military is difficult in countless ways. Transitioning from the military while assigned outside the United States is even more difficult. Doing a complete pivot from the government/defense sector to pursue a new “why” was a challenge that required significant self-reflection as well as a balance of quit (the military) and grit (pursuing new goals). Identifying that golden opportunity felt tricky, but it’s important to take the leap. “There is nothing permanent except for change.”
I would like to thank ALL the people who generously gave their time for virtual cups of coffee. Thank you to all the fantastic military transition programs to include the The COMMIT Foundation, Elite Meet, and Tuck Next Step. I look forward to spending time with my family and doing some extensive traveling this summer before beginning my next chapter as a management consultant with the amazing team at Insigniam in August.”
