In 2014 Andy and Bill Bowe joined an outing of the 20th Century Railroad Club.  It was a day trip from Chicago to Quincy, Illinois in an antique dome car attached the end of Amtrak’s regular service.  From Quincy it was a quick bus ride across the Mississippi River to Hannibal, Missouri.  Things were more than quiet there.  It was a sleepy Sunday after all.  But the hometown of Huckleberry Finn’s author, Samuel Clemens, whose pen name was Mark Twain, was much as he left it.  There was a whitewashed fence to be seen, and a boat trip on the Mississippi to be had before the bus back to Quincy to catch our return train to Chicago.
